Still alive after 10 days across the desert !!
Once again, a highly interesting and great experience with a big amount of pictures at the end.
Here's a summary of this trip :
We left Adelaide on the 10th of March on our 4WD truck. 10 people (6 Germans, 2 Swedish, 1 Dutch & 2 Swiss : nice ambiance and good fun) plus our guide Dusty.
The first day we wandered in the magnificient Flinders Ranges. We set up our first outdoor camp as we did every following nights : food cooked on fire and nights under the stars.
We went then bush walking at Wilpena Pound where we admired a couple of Aboriginal paintings on rock.
We drove trough many famous sites, such as the dry and salty Lake Eyre, William Creek (population 10, 1 pub ;-), the Dingo Fence and Coober Pedy. We took there our chance to fossick for some opals, the only activity running in this town in the middle of the Outback under the heat and the sun.
We continued off the beaten tracks on the remote areas via the OOdnatta Track to the Painted Desert, Simpson Desert, Dalhousie Hot Springs, Finke and eventually Uluru (Ayers Rock) at sunset and sunrise. Really amazing ! The Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) were the next stop for another great walk.
After that we went through the picturesque Kings Canyon between gorges and valleys. Gorgeous ! Our last day was spent at the Western McDonnel Ranges before heading to our final destination : Alice Springs. I only stayed there overnight before catching my plane (which I almost missed...) to Perth.
It was really hot (up to 45 degrees), full of flies, dirty (showers were extremely rare) and we were running late (one of our guide's favourite expression) most of the time, but apart from these small inconvenients it was the kind of trip you don't forget so soon ! Back to the civilisation in Perth I already miss it...!
I have now only 3 weeks left in Australia, which will be spent bretween Perth and a part of the West Coast before flying to Asia for the last 2 months of my journey.
There would be much more to say, of course, but then you'll have to wait until I'm back ;-) !!
