The Great Australian Adventure continues !
After five sleeping days in Sydney, we woke our Josephine up to continue our journey down South. It took us only three days to reach Melbourne where we arrived on the 23rd of January in the morning. On the road we stopped at the Royal and Ben Boyd National Parks for a couple of splendid walks. We also had some great fun by swimming in the waves and playing beachvolley.
We really had to enjoy the sun during the day, because the nights were incredibly cold...!
We also had to drive quite a lot, knowing that the distance between Sydney and Melbourne along the coast is about 1000 km. We probably missed some interesting sights, but we had to arrive in Melbourne early enough to have time to sell Josie... (sorry, I've to dry a tear... ;-). As soon as we arrived we started to hang up our advertisement in a dozen of backpackers.
Nevertheless, the following day we took Josephine for a last ride along the amazing Great Ocean Road to the Twelve Apostles. Spellbinding ! A lot of flies and tourists, but an unforgettable scenery. Unfortunately no time to go further towards Adelaide, but I'll probably do it later. It's really worth seeing.
We spent the next days in Melbourne between the sale of the car and the Australian Open on a giant screen (poor Federer...). Selling Josie is more complicated than we imagined, we had to pass an inspection and do some repairs for more than 500$. If this was not enough, we had the bad surprise to discover how expensive were the "free" park places in Melbourne... For her last night Josie was towed away by the police, which cost us another 400$... But all in all we reached a good end by selling her about 300$ more than the buying price in Cairns. And I must say that she was very helpful, this part of my journey would have been much less interesting wthout her.
About my travelling partners, they all left one after the other to Germany and Switzerland, apart from Thomas who stays a while in Asia. But I'm not completely alone : I have the chance to stay for some days by a family of friends (Sollberger, for those who know them) an hour away from Melbourne. A very welcome break and transition where I can enjoy a real bed, real food ("zopf" for breakfast, mmmh...) and even a swimming pool (which is highly appreciated when the temperature reach 40 degrees outside) !
There I have some time to plan the next step of my journey, which will probably consist on the discovery of Tasmania (if I can book a flight or a ferry early enough).
Goodbye !!
